This Saturday night will not only see three Group One victors crowned at Wentworth Park, but two very deserving gentlemen will be presented with Distinguished Service Awards for their contributions to the GBOTA.
Renowned participants Ronald Marsden of the Bankstown Branch and Raymond Holt from the Georges River Branch will be presented with medals for their contributions to the Association which span over 30 years.
Marsden, an active owner, trainer and breeder has been a member of the Association since the 1980’s, before becoming Chairman of the Marrickville branch from 1992 until 2020, then transitioning into Chairman for the Bankstown Branch. A delegate of the Metropolitan District Association, which meets monthly to discuss relevant industry issues since 2006, Marsden then moved into the position of Treasurer in 2016. Holt is also an active owner, trainer and breeder and has been a delegate of the MDA for the past 15 years and was President of the Georges River Branch for 9 years.
Both gentlemen are widely regarded for their outstanding work in maintaining the highly popular Bankstown slipping track, which caters for participants in the Metropolitan areas of Sydney who predominantly train from their suburban residences.
GBOTA director Ray Welsh acknowledged the work of Marsden and Holt in their efforts to ensure the track is continuously maintained and available for all those who require it.
“They (Marsden and Holt) live in the area and have volunteered for the past 10 years to mow and water it, and trainers go there three or four times a week to exercise their dogs.
It’s a very important track for those who live in the Metropolitan area to give them an opportunity to get their dogs fit when they don’t live on large properties or have runs.
They are very deserving recipients of these awards for their many years of service to the Association and what they’ve contributed to help other participants.”
Marden and Holt have been invited to attend this week’s Summer Racing Final night as special guests of the GBOTA and will be presented with prestigious medals to celebrate their outstanding achievements and efforts to promote our wonderful sport.
